While any record changer plays at 45 RPM: to play 7" singles stacked requires an additional special stacker adapter / stacker spindle, which is scarce (osolete) for Hi-Fi changers and only available for some brands such as BSR, Technics and DUAL (and is hard to find and expensive!) - If needing to stack 7" singles: see "Record Changers for 45 singles" for record changers for which 45 stackes are available: I list available 45 stackers in "Add-On's" Or: Get a record changer for LPs (no 45 stacker available) and add the "turntable" spindle to play each 45 single - one at the time - not stacked. LP changers with an "umbrella" type changer spindles (such as "Dual" or "Technics") allow to use "center insrts (for each single record insert one) to play 7" singles stacked.
• Most Hi-Fi record changers can be converted to a standard non stacking turntable (to play one record at the time - non stacked) by replacing the changer spindle with a turtnable spindle (user replaceable). I stock turtnable spindles for pretty much all record changers that offer this.

Record Changers
allow to stack records for automated uninterupted play. The changer drops a record form the stacking spindle, plays it and when played drops another record to play, continuosly, until the stack is exhausted.
Changes have been around form the 40's and in the days of old were constructed quite coarse. With advancement in technology changers became more gentle in the way they treated records, but still are not considered ideal, if playing today's rare, mint condition and expensive collector records - A quality turntable will be more appropriate for ultimate conserving of rare records.
If playing lots of records - may it be for day to day listening, or to record singles, or only once for archiving, etc., a record changer may become appealing as it saves the manual labor of serving them. As mentioned: Technolgy advanced over time, so generally changers of later vintage (60's, and up) are more gentle with records than the early ones (50's)- AND changers that were top of the line at the time made, are more refined than lower cost models.
As a rule of thumb: I probably would recommned to match the changer with the time aera form which the records come, that are being listened to, or in other words: A changerform the 50's is not a perfect match for playing records form the 70s + 80's . That because: Mono LPs form the 50's are more coarse than modern records. which were meant to be played on modern equipment.
Unfortunately at the time when Hi-Fi Stereo had risen and turntables had ripened to their perfection less record changers were manufacturd than turn tables. This leaves record changers based on the construction of a modern Hi-Fi player to be rare and expensive. I distinguish between "Hi-Fi" and other record changers.

Description: This Record Changer is the top of the line of BIC's 900 series. It is a quality instrument and was made with the highest quality materials by BIC in the USA. It was made in the mid 70's and compares to- and treats records like modern Hi-Fi turtnable. It has an Ortofon Hi-fi magnetic cartridge for refined sound. This unit is actually the extremely rare model 980i (for International), which sets itself apart for the standard 980: it offer a more rurgged base with hard cover, an AC power cord connector in back that allows to remove/replace the power cable, and a hard wired grounding post. Model 980i operates on both 110V and 220V and on both 50 and 60 Hz. This unit was refurbished on a complete tear down to last for years to come, which includes: de-greased and relubricated mechnical parts for reliable and long lasting peroformance. The unit can play records stacked for uniterupted automatic play, and 45 singles with the hard to find special order 45 sinlges adapter (in stack at additional cost). The difference to below listed model 960: The 960 has a AC syncronous motor that locks to the AC frequnecy and cannot offer pitch adjustment. The 980 has pitch control (and a stroboscope ring - visible through a window), as the motor voltage for 980 is electronically generated.
Condition: physical condition: excellent (9 / 10) - only minor signs of use and age - actual photos shown, can provide more detail photos. Dust cover: fine , except for typical scratches and dulling (visible in picture). Working condition: REFURBISHED for decades to come. First repaired, then refubished (mechanism completely overhauled: re-worked replaced damper o-ring, performed de-greasing and re-lubricating on all mechanical parts, performed all adjustments. Physical cleaning / detail work. The unit is in fine reliably working condition.
